Go back in time onboard the '70s Rock and Romance Cruise. You'll get a big dose of nostalgia while attending a mix of performances by '70s celebs and musicians, wearing your wildest bell bottoms and bonding with passengers who also lived through the groovy days of New Age and Nixon. The focal point of the lineup is, accordingly, '70s rock music, with a bunch of big names performing on the sailing. These themed musical cruises do remind me of big, extended music festivals like Woodstock (which I would have been far too young to appreciate at the time). And the UDC is touting their version of Studio 54.

Former Eagles member Don Felder, The Orchestra starring former members of ELO, Jefferson Starship, Rick Wakeman of Yes, Foghat, Bay City Rollers, Exile, Climax Blues Band, Journey former lead vocalist Steve Augeri, Queen Nation, Bee Gees Gold, Boogie Wonder Band and The Newbees will all be onboard. Like most musically themed cruises, Rock & Romance had its headline acts, among them such powerful draws as Peter Frampton, America, Little River Band, Christopher Cross, Orleans, Firefall, Ambrosia, Stephen Bishop, Chuck Negron (once of Three Dog Night), and the Orchestra (a band featuring two former members of ELO along with more recent recruits). Inevitably, most of the aforementioned ensembles were missing key original players, but given the fact most of their careers had extended several decades on, that was to be expected. As an update, I tried using my reservation invitation to the UDC. There were some cabins available in other classes, but no interior single cabins. 😢😢😢  A regular interior would cost $1000 more, an OV about $1500 more, and a balcony up from there.

Our third rock and romance cruise is 2 days, hoping to book a suite on flower power cruise when they go on sale . We again got to experience dozens of concerts, intimate performances and interactive events with some of our favorite artists from the ‘70s like Foreigner, Randy Bachman (Guess Who and BTO), Dave Mason, Don McLean, Pablo Cruise, Ambrosia, WAR, Firefall, Orleans and more. Produced by StarVista Live, the cruise features daily concerts (on the pool stage, in intimate venues and in the main theater), artist Q & A’s, trivia contests, themed costume nights and other interactive events. It was, in a very real sense, a homecoming of sorts.

The cost of 3rd and 4th passengers in a stateroom varies depending on cabin category and is $1,500 for all suites and Ultra Deluxe Veranda Stateroom, $1,200 for Aqua, Concierge and Veranda staterooms, $1,000 for Oceanview Staterooms and $800 for Inside Staterooms plus all applicable taxes and fees. There is also a nice discount when booking while on the cruise, they guarantee this will be cheapest fare. "Optimize my time" is a catch-all for bringing items that may or may not help me on this cruise - bring CDs/DVDs/LPs for signature?

I never cared much for wearing specialized outfits any time, especially the 70s, which were... I watched some Soul Train during the decade and remember a bit; it might do me good to go down memory lane. The 80s Cruise probably won't be available until after this year's cruise returns in mid-March. There's some chance I could book two of them, or perhaps one and another later in the year that catches my eye.
